The International Centre for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) is seeking Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Research Fellows. The research fellowship is a remote and home-based position. ICARDA will provide the successful candidate with a monthly stipend. ICARDA is committed to increasing women representation in its workforce and strongly encourages applications from women. The selection criteria include:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Water/Irrigation Engineering, Rangeland Ecology and Conservation, Plant Breeding, Livestock Management, Soil Science, or related disciplines.

2. Postgraduate or short course on Monitoring and Evaluation. Up to 2 years of work experience in monitoring and evaluation with an organisation similar to ICARDA.

3. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Strong computer skills, including MS Office, and familiarity with web-based platforms.

4. Knowledge or experience working on international development issues, especially in areas related to ICARDA’s mandate.

5. Ability to consistently meet deadlines and manage time well.

6. Professional level of attention to detail, accuracy of work and ability to multitask.

7. Desirable Qualifications and Competencies:

Master’s degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Agricultural Economics, Water/Irrigation Engineering, Rangeland Ecology and Conservation, Plant Breeding, Livestock Management, Soil Science, or related disciplines. 3-5 years of work experience in monitoring and evaluation with an organisation similar to ICARDA. Excellent written and oral communication skills in an additional international language other than English.

8. Knowledge of the CGIAR, its research portfolio and centres.

Main responsibilities of MEL fellows

1. Support the formulation and review of results frameworks at institutional and project levels.

2. Participate in the development of outcome-monitoring methodologies, including excel-based models.

3. Assist in user-based testing and piloting of new features for the web-based MEL platform. Configure projects in the web-based MEL platform.

4. Support research studies by developing data collection tools and programming them in mobile data collection platforms.

5. Provide training on the use of data collection tools and manage the resultant data.

6. Support ICARDA research programmes in the development and review of plans of work budget and reporting processes.

7. Identify, document, and share lessons learned.

8. Support evaluation processes initiated by ICARDA or partner/associated projects and research programmes. Undertake other tasks relevant to the efficient running of the monitoring, evaluation, and learning function, as assigned by the MEL Specialist.
