African Wildlife Conservation (AWF) is calling on eligible youths to apply for the Charles R. Wall Leadership Programme. The programme consists of two components – the Charles R. Wall Young African Policy Fellows, which is ushering in its third cohort, and the Charles R. Wall Conservation Leadership and Management Fellowship, which was revamped last year and is ready to take on its second cohort of leaders. The programme seeks to build a unified community of professionals from different sectors that are passionate about leaving an indelible mark in the world through conservation.

The Young African Policy Fellows Programme is co-facilitated by AWF and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) focused on technical and practical policy-making skills guided by key International Environmental Governance bodies, especially the Convention on Biological Diversity, which is set to hold its 16th conference of the parties (COP) later this year in Columbia. The inaugural Conservation Leadership and Management Fellowship is an AWF-led trailblazing pan-African leadership programme for young African professionals in the conservation sector. With a keen focus on self-leadership, team leadership, and organisational leadership, this programme brings together youth from government, non-governmental organisations, the private sector, and community-based entities that are leading impact in the environment space.

African youths, aged 20-35 years, are encouraged to apply for either of the two training programmes, which will include virtual workshops and a corresponding physical workshop in Nairobi, Kenya. The fully-funded fellowship covers air travel, accommodation, and ground transport for in-person workshops in Nairobi. Additionally, it provides a stipend for data bundles during virtual sessions and offers personalised coaching support for the innovation project. Each applicant is expected to submit a motivation letter responding to why the candidate would like to be considered alongside a Curriculum Vitae and reference letter from the university, employer, or any senior person with whom they have worked closely with. An online or pre-recorded video interview may also be part of the recruitment process. The application deadline is February 3, 2024.
