A farmer has commited suicide after a company denied employment in Nanjanagudu. According to the police, the young farmer identified as Siddaraju committed suicide by hanging himself to the roof of house by writing the name of a private company while the case has been registered at the Nanjangudu rural police station.
Siddaraju, who is a resident of Adakanahalli village, in Nanjanagudu taluk, was allegedly given land to private company called Parle Agro Industries through the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), promising to give him employment. Also, many farmers, including Siddegowda, father of Siddaraju, have given land to the Adakanahalli industrial area and while acquiring land from the farmers, the company promised to provide jobs, but was reportedly cheated without giving employment.
The deceased was said to have been offended by this and committed suicide by writing a death note against the company, as the case was registered in the Nanjangudu rural police station while the farmers staged protest against company and urged to arrest the concerned. According to the Varuna Constituency Ashraya Committee President, Dr. Yatindra Siddaramaiah promised to provide rs 5 lakh compensation from the government and additional compensation from KIADB and Parle company. Some people, who spoke on the sad occurrence, expressed their displeasure over the death of the young farmer.
Nanjangud, which is officially called Nanjanagudu is a town in the Mysuru district of the Indian state of Kamataka. Wikipedia states that Nanjangud lies on the banks of the river Kapila also called Kapilla. The town is famous for a type of banana grown in the region called the Nanjanagoodu rasabale. The Times of India reported that in 2022, a total of 2,942 farmers committed suicide between January 1 and December 2022 in the Maharashtra region.
