In Borno State, Northeast Nigeria, 26 fishermen have been confirmed dead in a gun attack by suspected Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) militants in the Gamborun Ngala local government area. Gamboru Ngala is about 180km drive from Maiduguri, the state capital and shares international border with the Cameroun Republic.
Military sources told Zagazola Makama, a Counter-Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad region that dozens of the terrorists riding on motorcycles stormed the field and began shooting sporadically, thus leading to casualties. According to reports: “They asked them to lay down. Thereafter, they used their fishing net and wrapped on them before they started torturing them. After they became unconscious, they opened fire at them, killing them instantly.” Meanwhile, about nine victims allegedly escaped the scene though three of them are down with gun wounds.
