To promote self-sufficiency, food revolution, and community support, in the nation, the First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) launched a groundbreaking competition open to women nationwide. The “Every Home a Garden” initiative encourages first-time female farmers to cultivate home gardens, with the opportunity to win a substantial N20 million prize.

According to the First Lady’s spokesperson Busola Kukoyi, participants of “Every Home: a Garden” must showcase their gardening prowess through a 30-minute video and a photograph highlighting the garden’s location. This competition not only promises a significant financial incentive, but also aims to foster a food revolution across Nigeria. The eligibility criteria emphasise inclusivity, restricting participation to women, who are first-time farmers and requiring the garden to be located in their homes. This initiative extends its reach to women in all states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

As the competition unfolds, the winner, set to be announced in December 2024, will not only take home the impressive cash prize, but also contribute to the broader vision of enhancing food security. By embracing the principles of sustainable agriculture, the initiative paves the way for a brighter, more resilient future, not just for women, but the entire nation. Sen. Oluremi Tinubu’s vision, coupled with the dedication of participants nationwide, marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s journey toward a more food-secure and empowered society, as the competition is borne out of the transformative power of collective action in shaping a sustainable and prosperous future for all.
