The National Bar Association Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL) has announced a major change in its leadership, due to the resignation of Ms. Aisha Rimi from her role as Vice Chairman. The announcement follows her recent appointment by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu, as the Chief Executive Officer/Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC); a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.

Ozofu Ogiemudia

A statement signed by the Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of the Section, Dayo Adu, disclosed that at its meeting, held on the 18th November 2023, the Executive Committee of the NBA-SBL, in accordance with the provisions of the bylaws of the Section, unanimously elected Mrs. Ozofu Ogiemudia as the new Vice Chairman of NBA-SBL. Ogiemudia, the immediate past secretary of the 2020-2022 NBA-SBL Council and a distinguished partner at the esteemed law firm of Udo Udoma and Belo-Osagie, assumes this role with a rich background in mergers and acquisition transactions, private equity, corporate restructuring and regulatory compliance while her extensive experience and forward-thinking approach position her as a capable leader to build upon the achievements of her predecessor.

Adu informed further that the “Nigerian Bar Association-Section on Business Law bids a respectful farewell to Ms. Aisha Rimi, acknowledging her exemplary service and invaluable contributions to the legal and business community during her tenure as Vice Chairman. Ms. Rimi’s assumption of her new role as the Chief Executive Officer of NIPC is a testament to her commitment to public service and leadership in advancing the interests of the legal profession. Ms. Rimi has agreed to continue supporting the NBA SBL as a member”.

On his part, the NBA-SBL’s Chairman, Dr. Adeoye Adefulu, has expressed gratitude for Ms. Aisha Rimi’s dedication, wishing her the best in her new position and welcomed Mrs. Ozofu Ogiemudia to her new role. “The NBA-SBL anticipates a seamless transition and remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting excellence and innovation in business law practice”, Adu stated further. Meanwhile, the NBA has three professional practice sections of which NBA-SBL is one. The sections are designed to equip members with necessary skills for advancement and exploits in the legal profession. The NBA-SBL has at its apex, a council that is currently chaired by the chairman with other members and sector-focused committees established to cover existing and new areas of law with a view to enhancing commercial law practice in Nigeria.
