A Kenyan farmer, Anthony Muigai, has said he uses chicken poop to power his farm, house, car and cooking. Chicken poop is the faeces of chickens and also known as chicken droppings. Many farmers collect and compost chicken faeces, which they use as manure for their farms. Meanwhile, Muigai uses chicken droppings to power his farm, house, car and uses it for cooking. In an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) News Africa, he uses cow dug, as material, to make biogas until he researched that chicken poop could be used as well.

He showed how and why he does not just use his chickens for eggs – proving that one man’s trash really is another man’s treasure. While speaking with BBC, he said, “I use chicken poop to power my farm. We collect this chicken poop every morning. We just sweep it and clean it for the day. I also use the chicken poop to produce biogas. I used to use cow dung, as material to make biogas until I researched that chicken poop can be used as well. We mix the chicken poop with water and make it glow easily in the biogas. We will pour it in the inlet while the outlet is on the other side.

“Biogas flows through the pipe that comes in my gadget and it helps remove any Sulphur and bad smells. We equally use the biogas to heat the water for the fish pond. Also, as long as my chicken keep pooing, I don’t need to worry about running out of gas in my house. I use to use biogas to power my car too. My pipe brings biogas from the biogas plant and it will take biogas inside my generator and I will connect it with charge and we are ready to go. It is really amazing. No one would have thought chicken poop could power a car”, he added.
