In some African farming communities, when a horse is sick to the point of death, it takes a woman, who has known only one man in her entire life, to jump over it and the horse will be healed. While, some school of thought says it must be a virgin woman that can achieve this; the most popular thread has it that it must be a faithful wife, who has only ‘known’ her husband alone, all through her life. This practice can be said to be one that extols decency, morality and virtue. After the woman jumps over the horse, some few minutes later, the horse is expected to rise and start walking again. If it were the other way round and the woman lies, if she jumps over the horse, it will die instead of being healed.
As seen in the video below, the woman, who was considered ‘pure’, was asked to jump over the sick horse and few minutes later, the horse ran away with huge steps and the young men around rushed to pick up the woman and sing her praises. Meanwhile, the particular African country where this incidence was reported, is yet to be confirmed. Also, with the advent of farming technology and improved veterinary services, horses and other livestock now get first-hand medical services when needed and even go for routine check up, especially in advanced nations.
