The Federal Government has approved the appointment of Dr. Moshood Popoola, as the Provost of the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Other appointees are: Dr. Dashe Gunya, Executive Director, National Veterinary Research Institute, Vom, Jos; and Prof. Abdullahi Ahmed, Provost, Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Vom, Jos, Plateau State.
The approval, which was made known by the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, comes after due process of examinations and interviews of qualified candidates, who applied for the positions, according to the statement issued by the Public Relations Officer to the Executive Secretary of ARCN, Khadijat Ameen, in Abuja, and made available to FarmingFarmersFarms.
Presenting the letters of appointment, the Executive Secretary of ARCN, Dr. Adamu Dabban charged the new appointees to key into the food sustainability programme of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by making the colleges a citadel of knowledge.
Dabban also charged them to be professional in their conduct, and diligent in the discharge of their duties while having an ambitious agenda, focused on improving governance, enhancing research capacity, strengthening stakeholder collaboration, promoting staff welfare, and advancing the National Agricultural Research system.
The appointments took effect from July 21, 2026, for a period of five years.
The Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Ibadan’s mandate is to produce graduates at the National and Higher National Diploma levels that are morally-sound, professionally-skilled, and enterprising for sustainable agriculture, science, and rural development in Nigeria.
The School of Animal Health, as it was then referred to, was founded on April 1, 1964, by the now defunct Western Region, and the United States Agency for International Development, (USAID), to meet the need of training livestock assistants to cope with the increasing demand for assistance in the practice of the veterinary profession, among others.
