A regular columnist with FarmingFarmersFarms, Dr. Olubukola Adenubi, has been promoted to the rank of Professor of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology.
Adenubi is one of the Readers (Associate Professors) elevated by the Governing Council of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, after the recent ratification of recommendations made by the Appointment and Promotions Committee the applicant and are of professorial standing in a discipline related to the applicant’s core and for Academic Staff (APCAS) of the institution.
Adenubi, a veterinarian, joined the services of FUNAAB in 2005, a university with the tripartite mandate of teaching, research and extension services.
She obtained an MSc in Pharmacology degree from the University of Ibadan in 2009, and crowned the academic journey with a PhD degree in Paraclinical Sciences from the prestigious University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2017.
She is a certified Fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeons, Nigeria, and rose through the ranks, taking keen interest in the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology courses, mentorship and all-round development of full potentials of her students and junior as colleagues.
A core aspect of her research focuses on the precursors of drug development from natural products such as plant and microbial species with the aim of management of parasitic and infectious disease pathogens of veterinary and medical importance.
She collaborates extensively with researchers within and outside the country, and her research findings have been presented at several local and international conferences, garnering many an notable awards.
The Professor has a significant number of her research articles in reputable local and international academic journals with numerous citations, placing her an authority in her field.
She is also involved in several leadership and administrative duties, special assignments, and community engagements.
Adenubi’s professorial title is a testament to her leadership and exceptional contributions in research, scholarship, teaching and mentorship by learning at national and research international levels; an expert with the ability to profess expertise in one’s field and profession.
The don noted further that across many universities in Nigeria, the procedure for appointment and conferment of the rank of Professor include conducting an internal assessment by a panel of research assessors comprising senior professors, including relevant members of the university’s Senate standing committee of APCAS.
She added that, findings are sent to various external academic assessors, who are independent of academic interest the university eventually communicates to the successful applicant, the appointment as Professor, subject to positive assessments of the external assessors, among other complex processes.
Speaking on the appointment, the Editor-in-Chief of FarmingFarmersFarms, Dr. Adewale Kupoluyi, has congratulated Prof. Adenubi on her elevation, which he said was ‘well-deserved’.
He described the don as a very committed, detailed, and talented writer, who had contributed immensely to the editorial quality of the publication since its debut about two years ago, saying that the promotion would enable her contribute more to scholarship and educational development in this exalted position by serving the veterinary profession, academia better, and humanity as a whole.
