A new herbicide that can suppress the growth of unwanted weeds on farms, has been produced. This product is coming from WACOT, which is a foremost food and agro-allied company invested in the value chains of various crops across Nigeria. The herbicide is called “Dragon Super”, which is made to combat persistent weed problems that farmers face. The company said Dragon Super was safe to the environment and that it has no residue in soil, water and the plant.
The product is a non-selective, broad-spectrum herbicide used to control annual and perennial grasses and broad-leaf weeds. Dragon Super is packaged to assist farmers outperform existing herbicides by suppressing weeds for up to 30 days at half dose, and safe for intercropping and preventing weed regeneration. According to the Director, Agriculture Input Division of WACOT, Murari Sharma, the product is a new technology in the agriculture industry, saying that the product would set a new standard for agricultural output, noting that a half-dose provides more than a month of weed management.
Sharma said weeds remain a great problem for the farmer, noting that “This is going to be a great revolution in the agriculture industry because this product is a new chemistry, and this product is a new invention”. The product works in all climates, temperatures and soils because it had been tested in nearly 2,000 farms in various locations where it had proven to operate in all temperatures. “Suppose weeds are causing 25 per cent yield reduction that percentage yield reduction will be 100 per cent overcome by this product. So, 25 per cent of yield enhancement would be there because of this product, which was a reduction because of the weeds. So, all kind of weeds, which are controlled by this product, would create a lot of contribution to agricultural enhancement”, he said.
