The National President of All Farmers Association of Nigerian (AFAN), Dr. Farouk Mudi, has been given an Award of Honour by the Association of Dean of Agriculture in Nigeria Universities (ADAN). The honour was given to him at the recently-concluded 66th Annual General Meeting, held at the University of Abuja. The AFAN boss was commended for his outstanding performance, as he was described as a man, who transformed agriculture in Nigeria by introducing several programmes that changed the face of farming; boost the capacity of farmers and expanded the nation’s ability to feed itself.
The stakeholders in the nation’s agricultural sector had come together for the event, themed “Emerging Trends in Agriculture for Economic Recovery, Growth and National Development”. Meanwhile, the AFAN President had distributed mobile phones to farmers, in order to enable them to access cash loans. Speaking at the occasion, Mudi said the phones can be used to access inputs, loans, insurance, airtime, data and lots more. Farmers were encouraged to enroll as members of AFAN data bank to have access to these facilities by using the USSD code generated. AFAN had partnered Tingomobile, a global fintech and agri-fintech group of companies, for the phone distribution project, which according to him, would be given to all departments of agriculture in Nigerian universities. Many have commended the project as a good development and initiative, which would in turn, enhance the farming profession through digital farming.
