The Northern Consumers Protection Association (NCPA) and the Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative have commended moves by the Bola Tinubu administration to bring food prices down in Nigeria.
The groups promised to support the government, and that quick action will help Nigerians get affordable food.
In a joint statement signed by NCPA leader, Ahmed Abubakar and Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative Coordinator, Samaila Musa, the groups said the move is timely and needed to fight the rising cost of living in Nigeria, lauding President Tinubu’s decision as a sign that the government wants to reduce the hardships Nigerians face.
They also appreciated the decision to ensure that farm produce move safely along transport routes, earlier made known by the Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Aliyu Abdullahi.
The statement said, “As groups representing consumers in northern Nigeria and local communities, we know how high food prices make life hard for families, especially the less privileged. The rising cost of living is a big problem. It affects not just what people can buy, but also their quality of life”.
“Fixing problems with transport will help lower food prices by making the supply chain smoother. This committee must work quickly and carefully to make it easier to move food from farms to markets. We ask the Federal Executive Council committee to follow the President’s directive without further delay, and work closely with everyone involved in farming, selling, and transporting food to make sure the plan works well”, the statement added.

They further asked the committee to find new ways to improve food delivery, as this could include building better roads, using technology to manage supply chains, and creating partnerships to help move farm goods smoothly. “We can solve the many problems that cause high food prices and make sure all Nigerians can afford food”, it added.
They further expressed appreciation to the President for taking the bold step, saying “Together, we can make a future where every Nigerian has the right to affordable food at low cost”.
