In a bid to fulfil its mandate, to promote and facilitate development programmes, instruments and support services to accelerate modernisation of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) subsector, the Small and Medium Entrepreneurs Development Agency (SMEDAN), has again trained 80 women in agriculture business and entrepreneurship.
During the workshop titled ‘Women in Self-Employment Programme (WISE-P)’ in Asaba, Delta State, the Director-General of SMEDAN, Olawale Fasanya, stated that the programme was held to encourage self-reliance among the participants.
Fasanya, represented by the Delta State manager of SMEDAN, Babalola Adeleke, said WISE-P was also held to empower women to achieve improved productivity and sustainability in the agricultural business.
He added that the programme would also promote and advocate self-sufficiency and food security in Nigeria and expose women to agriculture insurance.
Some of the designed content of the programme include; exposing women farmers to the use of modern techniques and equipment, equipping women farmers with the knowledge of keeping records; acquainting women farmers on proper storage facilities and preservation of farm products.
SMEDAN DG, therefore, encouraged women farmers to be acquainted with regulatory procedures and product certification, in order to bring forth standard quality product that can compete in both regional and international markets.
